Every cell in his body screams at him to run but he stops and crouches down against the wall to listen. Then, after a few seconds, more words from the speakers, and the same voice… laughing gently to himself.

His mind races through all of the possibilities that led to what just hit his ear drums.

Did he miss? Not a chance. Was the guy he just took out a decoy? Did another drone take over straight away like some sort of new succession structure to the swarms? He’d soon find out. But all of these questions were overwhelmed by the biggest question of all, and it bounces around his head just as the words from the speakers echo out around the town:
