Cathy calls out to him to catch up and he turns to walk after them. Then he stops.
Dylan: Hey look. There’s somebody there.
The three adults stop abruptly and look without question. Their cautious advance was masked by their desire to get to the house quickly before it got dark. But now that there was a signal of potential danger the sensitivity of the hair trigger on their nerves is revealed.
At the first mention of trouble they look up towards the house. Hoping he is wrong but unfortunately the boy is right. There is movement, and it seems to be human. They are less than one third of the way across so it’s hard to make out any great detail and as Dylan catches up Andrew holds his hand up to him to stay back where he is.
