The darkness is suddenly broken by a red flash of light as a flare is brought to life and thrown into an adjacent street. It lands in the middle of the road and is instantly surrounded by a swarm of screeching drones.

Steve runs to the edge of the roof to look down at them. He can’t see how many there are as the harsh red light is blocked partially by the horde of bodies around it. But he can see that there would be enough to be a problem if he had bumped into them. Especially in the dark. Especially blind.
