He feels himself grow feint and his mind wanders back to a memory before the world fell apart. As if he was falling into unconsciousness. He tries to resist, he has started to feel it coming now before it happened, and attempts to control it now. He can’t afford to black out like this. But the control escapes him and he drifts into the black:

A barbell crashes to the floor and the thud echoes around the local gym weight room. This weird daydream, or hallucination, or whatever it was, seemed almost real. He could even feel the moving air flowing on his skin from the air conditioning, but it didn’t feel like a memory, not like before. He looks down and can see that the noise was caused by him dropping the weight. He wasn’t expecting to be holding something, so it caught him off guard.
