the sheer numbers of rioters were too much to handle and the police were eventually driven back.

We have heard reports of a large crowd of these violent thugs in the vicinity and we can hear their chants and shouting as they approach now from our east. I’ve got no idea what they are chanting but it seems uncoordinated.

The camera focuses towards the end of the street where a group of youths have run into view from an adjacent road. They stop and look at the wall of shields and at each other before letting out a harrowing scream. The riot police take position as the initial six are rapidly joined by multiple gangs of eight to ten additional assailants.

The reporter now shouts to be heard as the noise from the mob becomes too loud for her to hear herself.
