He finds a short passage by flicking through the pages at random and stopping suddenly:

I had a conversation with Moe today. He said that I seem to switch off my emotions when I get stressed, scared or have to deal with something out of the ordinary.

Sure, I become calmer, more methodical and get the job done, but my detachment can often cause me to make decisions that are unusually harsh and cold. Unusual for other people to understand anyway. I lose my humanity at the wrong times he said.

He sits back, presses play on the remote control but pays the movie no attention. His mind processing what he’d just read: Is that what I’m doing now? Retreating and disconnecting from the rest of humanity… because
