Dylan taps on Cathy’s arm: Can I go with him?

Cathy snaps down at him dismissively: Of course you can’t. You have to stay here where it’s safe.

Steve looks down at the boy and rubs his head to acknowledge his courage to want to come out with him. He has no idea what’s out there really, but that innocence was something he could recognise in himself when he first started out. Knowing too much sometimes was paralysing he found.

He takes a set of binoculars from the beast and hands them to the boy, then points to a window in the roof of the house where he could get a better view.
