The car skids to a halt as it reaches the roadblock and both Tommy and Brian stare in disbelief at the next pothole on their road to freedom. The bus blocks both lanes, firmly wedged against the walls on either side which protect against a drop to the marshy estuary below. Sarah is still looking out through the rear window at the pursuing swarm but turns towards them when the car stops, wondering what the delay is: What’s wrong? Why are we stopped? They’re coming!

They don’t answer. They don’t need to. She looks out through the windscreen at the barricade ahead and the expression on her face instantly matches theirs in disbelief and horror: Oh… shit!

Tommy screams while punching the ceiling of the car repeatedly: Can we not catch a break?
