the bunk beds holding a handgun loosely in his hand. Then slowly removes the hoodie and scarf concealing his face, hesitant to reveal his face, even to himself. Placing the notebook onto a shelf he climbs to the top bunk. A button on the wall above his bed is used to turn the lights down and he closes his eyes.

When the lights go down however the volume in his mind goes up. Endless thoughts screaming at him all the time. The sounds of the girl crying slowly gather intensity again. Shadows of memories made visible by the glare of silence. Maybe they were always there, but lying in the dark and quiet of the bunker is where they were most noticeable.

Switching on the light he takes the notepad from the shelf and flicks through the pages of handwritten notes,
