look on her face suggested that she wanted to break the ice on the subject.

He’d started to realise that she was the type that didn’t hold back too often and was dreading the quickly approaching moment when she would bring it up, now only seconds away. He understood, despite the voice in his head arguing that they were in his house and should accept whatever he wanted, that they hadn’t seen his face yet and were expected to trust him.

She stands and slowly walks towards him, stopping just a few inches away. This level of intrusion into his personal space was lot sooner than expected, but perfectly in line with what he had gathered about her personality so far. Here he was in his own home and he felt like the stranger all of a sudden.
